Red Kite View
Red Kite View is a specialist mental health inpatient hospital for children and young people aged 13 -18 from all across West Yorkshire. Red Kite View is made up of two wards: Skylark, the General Adolescent Ward, which has 16 beds; and Lapwing, a Psychiatric Intensive Care unit, with 6 beds.
Starling is the education suite at Red Kite View, providing a dedicated learning space with rooms for maths, English and science. We offer teaching to all young people, whatever their education pathway. PICU also has its own classroom where young people are offered 1-1 sessions appropriate to their needs.
Following admission, our team are notified of a young person’s readiness to access education. An education case manager is assigned, who then attends an initial planning meeting where they meet the young person, their family and their medical team, to plan goals for the admission.
Throughout the duration of a young person’s stay at Red Kite View, education case managers will liaise with schools and colleges to promote progress and support a return to mainstream education on discharge.
